Hi everyone! My name's Michelle and I am from Chicago, USA. I am so excited to meet all of you and hopefully very soon! My absolute favorite thing to do is travel (of course!). I have spent an extended period of time in Argentina, Spain, and Australia, but have backpacked in many other countries as well. Besides traveling, I love to be active! That currently takes the form of weightlifting, but I use to dance. Most recently I was into Latin dancing, but I did many other styles when I was younger. In general, though, I’m super sarcastic, I love coffee, reading, spending time with my friends, and trying new foods! I’m also not sure what the background is on this debate that I saw in some of your videos, but I’m pro-pineapple on pizza.
Best trip/place you’ve ever been to?
My favorite trip so far was to Cusco, Peru, and, by extension, Machu Picchu!
Favorite song/ music genre?
I don’t think I’ve ever been able to pick a “favorite song” as that changes on an almost daily basis, but I will leave you with a favorite podcast! I listen to Armchair Expert almost every day. Dax Shepherd always gives me a good laugh and I usually learn something new: win-win!
If you were to be stranded on an island what’s the one thing you’d want to have with you?
I’m torn between chapstick and a hair tie. The obvious answer would be a water filtration system or something to help me find food, but in a stressful situation, the last thing you want is chapped lips or hair in your face.
Most important piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Plans are meant to be changed. I think there are many different ways to get this same point across, but I just remember on one of my backpacking trips having a conversation with a complete stranger on a train about my next travel plans, and she simply said these 6 words to me and it clicked! I have tried to live by it since.
Weirdest food you’ve ever tried?
Takoyaki! It's a popular snack in Japan and I tried it on the streets in Osaka. I can't say they're all like this, but the one I tried had very rubbery octopus on the inside and the ball of dough around it was still hot and gooey. The combination of textures was too much for me!
Do you have any pets?
I don't technically have any pets right now, but my housemate has a rabbit! Even though I give him the least amount of attention, he is usually attached to my hip when he's out and about and likes to sit on my keyboard while I work.
What are you excited about the most at Tgs?
Getting to know all of you! TGS is such a unique community and I am so excited to be a part of it and to have the opportunity to hear all of your stories. I love the opportunity to experience change and growth and I think there will be a lot of that at TGS and I’m excited to be a part of such a large community that has such similar values!
